Is there
a plan to implement other CDC protocols ?
Evaluating such protocols
is very time expensive, therefore there are currently no activities in
this.
Is there
a possibility to display text characters on the radio instead of CD#/track#
?
No, because the Panasonic
protocol does only permit the data transfer of numbers and some special
characters (e.g. '=', '>' etc.).
Is it
possible to display title data from the Archos on the radio ?
No, because:
-
the Panasonic protocol does only
permit the data transfer of numbers and some special characters (e.g. '=',
'>' etc.).
-
the Archos Jukeboxes don't have
such a data transmission interface.
-
both, the original Archos and
the Rockbox firmware, don't have implemented such a function currently
(Rockbox is investigating on such a feature).
Why
there are only few Archos remote control commands ?
Because the original Archos
and the Rockbox firmware currently are only supporting the described commands.
Enhancing the functionalities
of the remote controls serial commands implies modifications in the firmware.
Where
can I download the source code ?
To be honest:
-
The major problem in this project
was to understand the communication procedure and to "decode" the protocol.
-
"Decoding" the protocol took me
nearly 3/4 year and was only possible with suitable equipment.
-
I searched the internet for several
weeks without finding something really useful and therefore found myself
in the need to do everything on my own.
-
Basically I do like the "spirit"
of open-source a lot and thought several times about open the facts to
the world.
-
Maybe I'll do that one day, but
not yet at the moment.
-
I hope you will understand my
point of view.
Why
there is no box and no cables coming with the simulator ?
I don't know where exactly
the simulator will be installed in your car. There are cars with enough
space behind the radio to install the simulator, other cars don't have
enough space.
If the simulator would be
mounted in a box by default, it could happen, that the simulator can not
be installed just because the box would be maybe too big.
Because of the same reason
it comes also without cables. The cables should be as short as possible.
Because I don't know the place of the installation, I also don't know the
length of the cables.
Another reason is, that I
eventually don't know the necessary connector on the radio side.
Do I
need a case for the simulator ?
There are no reasons against
that, if there is enough space.
Another alternative is, to
pack the board into a heat shrinkable tube, that also covers and insulates
the connectors.
Attention:
The simulator versions with
9V supply do have a heat sink mounted. This normally doesn't get too warm.
Nevertheless there should
be made a hole into the box, that shouldn't be too small to have enough
air circulation.
If the board is protected
with a heat shrinkable tube, the tube should be cutted to have a hole where
the heat sink passes through (the heat sink is not insulated against
the part, so there is risk of short cuts, if it gets in contact with other
metal parts).
What
do I have to take care about with the wiring and the cables ?
-
The cables should be as short
as possible.
-
If the cable connecting board
and radio is longer than 20cm, a shielded cable is recommended.
-
The audio cable to the Archos
player should always be a shielded one.
-
The Archos power connection cable
doesn't need to be shielded, but should not be too thin.
How
can I find out, which HW and SW version I have ?
According to the HW, there
are some views, that should enable
you to find out the HW version (eventuelly by comparing them to your board).
In all other cases (includes
also the SW version), please don't hesitate to ask me.
Why
the simulator with Archos remote control is sometimes recognised only after
2x pressing the 'CD' key on my MCD ?
Following situation:
-
The MCD is switched on in radio
mode, then you try to switch it to CDC mode by pressing the 'CD' key.
-
While switched on, radio mode
is selected and then you try to switch back to CDC mode.
In both cases it might happen,
that the MCD is displaying 'NO DISC' first and the is activating the radio
mode.
If you then press the 'CD'
key a 2nd time, the simulator is accepted.
Explanation:
A 100% recognition of the
simulator would not be the problem, but then one of the 'CD1'-'CD6' keys
would be w/o function.
To have all CD keys available,
I decided to accept that little flaw.
After pressing the 'CD' key
a 2nd time, the simulator is always recognised, that means it never
ends up in a situation where the simulator isn't recognised anymore at
all.
Is
it possible to remote control all Archos models with the simulator ?
Unfortunately I'm not able
to answer this 100%.
I'm actualising all working
combinations of simulator/radio/Archos in this
list.
If a Archos model should not
be listed there, maybe the following hint helps:
The simulator is using the
HW and SW interface of the Jukebox Studio/Recorder models.
That means, if it is possible
to remote control a specific Archos model with the original Archos remote
control for Jukebox Studio Players (please check this directly with Archos),
then the simulator will work too.
This behaviour is only
occuring with simulators with remote control and MCD.
What
if my radio is not listed at all in the list of working radios ?
I'm actualising all working
combinations of simulator/radio/Archos in this
list.
If a specific radio is not
listed there, then it never was tried to operate it with my simulator.
If it will work together with
my simulator has to be clarified individually.
